Crochet sole to fit all

Hi All,

At last am happy to inform you all that I found a method to crochet a sole for a shoe or slipper for any size.

Diving into the pattern. First I measured the leg the hollow part of the feet from below the hump to before the heel(Fig 1), which is the length of our starting chain. In some blog I read that length of our feet - the breath of our upper feet can also be used for our starting chain. Not sure how well this works though.

Now, we have the length of our starting chain.

                                                             Fig  1

I made the flip-flop for my daughter, her measurement was 5 inches and the yarn I used was bulky worsted weight yarn with a 5mm hook. With all these parameters, I started with a ch of 20.

  1. ch 1, sc around and sl st into the first sc.
  2. ch 1(does not count as sc), sc into the same st and around till you come to the turning st, dc 3 times in the same st. Continue sc till you reach the sl st, hdc 3 times into the st. sl st into the first sc.
  3. ch 1,sc around and stop 5 sts before the the st that has the 3dcs. hdc into the next 5 sts, 2 dc into the next 3 dc. hdc into the next 5 sts. Continue with sc till you reach the first hdc from the previous row. 2 hdc into the next 3 sts.sl st into the first sc.
  4. ch1, sc in each sc and stop 5 sts before the first 2 dc, hdc in the next 5 sts,2 dc in the next st, 1 dc in the next  st,2dc in the next st, 1dc in the next  st, 2 dc in the next st,1 dc in the next. Hdc in the next 5 sts, sc in each st till you reach the 2 hdc.(2 hdc in the next st, 1 hdc in the next st) 3 times.
  5. Continue to increase the dc for the toe and the hdc for the heel till the desired length of the feet is achieved.
Finish off and weave in the ends.

For the above flip flop strap, I measured the length from the space between her big toe and second toe, made a chain double that length + 8. For my daughter it was 20 chains. So I chained 48

  1. Hdc around till you come to the center 8.
  2. Fold in the middle so that there are 4 on each side. sl st 4 times.
  3. Hdc in the rest of the chains.
  4. Now stitch it to the sole.
  5. Find a rubber sole and attach to the crochet sole or make one more crochet sole and sew it together to make it sturdy.
Viola, there is your flip flop. Njoy!
